MAHSRA Encourages March 8 Women’s Day

MAHSRA’s Advocacy Call on the Development Rights of Vulnerable Women in Commemoration of Women’s Day March 8, 2018

The valued position of women is very well reflected in the preamble of the 1975 Declaration of Mexico on the Equality of Women and Their Contribution to Development and Peace, which takes into account the role played by women in the history of humanity, especially in the struggle for natural liberation, the strengthening of international peace, and the elimination of imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, foreign occupation, Zionism, alien domination, racism and apartheid.

The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.  This intends to draw attention to the rights and activism of rural women, who make up over a quarter of the world population, and are being left behind in every measure of development. Denying the vulnerable women of their rights is a severe form of psychosocial violence.

To support these vulnerable women necessitate more than just mere well-being wishes or partying but as well getting involved in vigorous campaigns that promote their empowerment and development rights such as #TimeisNow.

Let’s all spread our voices within global marches and campaigns, including #MeToo and #TimesUp on issues ranging from sexual harassment and femicide to equal pay and women’s political representation as well as other campaigns such as #PressforProgress, PledgeforParity and #BeBoldforChange.

To the Frontline Defenders’ women, MAHSRA say bravo for your committed involvements towards peace and development especially by defending human rights values and those that protect such values.

MAHSRA also shows much warm regards to the British High Commission and the Canadian High Commission to Cameroon for their invaluable and continuous efforts to support and protect the development rights of vulnerable community women.

The respect and implementation of the inclusive integrality of all the human rights is a principal core on the ethics for achieving durable peace.

Wishing all the ladies a more enlightened, refreshing and memorable women’s day 2018
